Off Topic, AMD 1.4 ghz

Ok, this is opinion is based entirely upon my experience.

AMD's 1.4 Ghz CPU's are PEACES OF ABSOLUTE ****!

I just burned up another on in my new system. Oh, the cooling fan is working just fine, but that GD chip is just a POS!

Now, I have to fight the GD store that I just bought it from again, and try to get them to replace it again.

I had my system checked at a local Computer store and thay said its fine, that the new Atholons are POS, and I should have gone with a P4. Well now after two weeks of fighting with POS, I am a believer.

A system that should have only cost me 1100, has now cost me over 1600. I am very very very displeased with AMD. (All parts are AMD approve. MB, Memorie, HD, Fan, CPU [duh], Video Card, Network Card, Sound Card, and Case.)

Thank god I still have my P2 400. I am so sick of trying to get that GD thing to work that I am about to tear it down and return all the fricking peaces and go out and by a new p4 system just to spite AMD.

AMD = Crappy 1.4 ghz chips.

Better install that fan correctly... but someone too dumb to do that (and use that nice software which is able to read out system and CPU temperature) shurely doesn't deserve better than paying INTEL 3 times what their slow crap is worth ...

Fan is installed correctly, and all on board software is, or rather, was working. I checked the stats before starting Tribes, and everything was within norms. I played Tribes for about a half hour before ending the game. I went to click on the Big Blue E thingy, and the mouse froze. Nothing worked. I rebooted, and nothing happened. I checked the temp of the CPU, by moving my hand near the fan, it was working, and the cooling fins were luke warm. Go figure.

Yes I reoved the TAPE before I put the fan on. Duh. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I've got an athalon (older one though) and other than taking some work to resolve a problem with my video card (issue with motherboard chipset and G400 video card) it has been the easiest to assemble and most trouble free computer I have ever had. I havn't had the computer lock up or have any of those page fault errors in over a year, when I would get them on a daily basis with my old intel chip.

IMHO,

When they rush chips out to be the fastest there will always be bad chips out there. I am waiting for IBM's copper based chip which should prevnet these types of issues as well as being wickedly fast.

Still using my P-133 for over 6 years.

Despite all the stuff they say, I never liked Athlon. Intel seems the way to go for most things. (Heck the Army is using them in their Land Warrior program)
Intel I think already has the copper chips already out. (I think its called the Coppermine chip, but Im not sure.)
What I want to do with a system is overclock the processor and install a super cooling system, like a water cooled one maybe.

We just got a 1.2 GHz Athlon here at work. It has been running almost continually for a month, and no problems. Maybe it's your motherboard, not the CPUs.

AMD is off the hook! Here is a quote from another thread by Atrocities:

Well, off topic news is that my new system is now working, and I am using it to post this message. The FIC AD11 motherboard I had ran very very hot, and burned up its heat sink. I later discovered that this is a common promblem with FIC Boards. I now have a MSI KT266 Raid MB, however, it is only configured to run 200 FSB right now as I have not been able to find the jumper to allow the DDR 266 memory to run at full speed. (133 x 2)

No, AMD is not off my hook as I have had a bad AMD chip on the computer I had before the one I am useing now. And the one I am working on now is crashing really bad now and I suspect the CPU (an AMD) is the problem.
