\"can\'t assign artillery\"
I'm building a SPMBT scenario involving the USMC and Thai forces working together (against Malaysian Islamists -- maybe I'll tell you about it sometime) I have a pair of LAV-25s with scouts onboard which can't assign artillery. They have radios and aren't subordinated to a Thai formation (I think). What am I missing?

Re: \"can\'t assign artillery\"
I don't know if you already checked this up, but only formation leader units (0 units) can assign artillery, as opposed to any other unit in the platoon. So if the X0 unit of your scout platoon is one of the onboard scouts, you should unload it first to plot the fire mission. Afterwards you can reload it, knowing that it will lose eyesight on the target and the bombardment will lose accuracy.
Reversely, you can tweak your roster in the deploy phase to make one of the LAVs the platoon HQ. Apart from that, I'd be interested in getting a look at this scenario once you are done with it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: \"can\'t assign artillery\"
OK, I think I get it now. Making each individual scout it's own little platoon did the job. This is kind of dumb isn't it? Isn't calling in artillery on enemy forces one of the main jobs of a scout?

Re: \"can\'t assign artillery\"
I'd say it's something to do with old SP radio rules for the (WW2) days when only platoon leaders had reliable access to arty command. Now don't trust me on that...
OTOH, I don't think dedicated FO units have this limitation, so if you want to go out of your way you may replace your scouts with beefed-up FO teams. |
