Off board counter battery fire

I am German fighting the Brits and I get a message that their off board 2 pounder artillery piece is shooting at my off board artillery pieces with counter battery fire. What I want to know is how do I shoot back??? Where do I target on the board to hit them with counter battery fire?

Re: Off board counter battery fire

Good day, Birdsong73

First of all. Welcome aboard.

Secondly, I know your pain. It does seem that the game does portray this function of warfare accurately. The Germans were not as good at this as the Allies were. I fight my battles mostly as Germans and have for years.

I do have some suggestions, however they will work best in campaign.

1. You MUST dedicate one or more large caliber Bttys to this task, (in game terms do not assign them any targets). This will give you the best chance in a set piece senario as well.

2. Ensure you have FO's or Beobachtungspanzerwagens, keep them protected and in use in your campaign and they will gain expireance and as they do you will find your deicated counter-battery Btty(s) will respond more often. The actual discion to fire a CB mission is made by your FO units.

3. Another solution, which would work in senarios as well as campaigns, is to purchase your artillery to be all "on board" this will involve more work on your part ensuring they move every couple fire mission to avoid CB, however, you would only be able to CB enenmy "on Board" positons, but you would have control of these missions. On Board cannot target off board.

I hope this helps.

the 25 ponders have a range of 212 if i remeber correctly so they ourange all medium arty pieces of yours. Against the brits it is better to rely on onbord aty and buy only big offbordcannons for counterbattery fire.

Your 75mm and 105mm units will get target if you buy them as of board units.

counterbatteryfire is not under your control. if an offboard aty has range higher then one of the the enmies aty it might fire back. experiencce is a factor in that.

Re: Off board counter battery fire

Guys, there is some german guns that have a range of 214. It's a 100mm I think, and it usually outranges the competition, at least early on. The vast majority of guns I have seen, all the way up to 200mmm or larger do not outrange that gun. It seems in all the campaigns I started (China nationalists, USSR, Poland, England, USA) that the guns that are available to that first campaign mission, are at best equal to that range, which amounts to maybe 2-3 other guns. I think you will also find as the war goes on that this situation will change.

The German 100 mm K18 has a range of 214. This is your most effective counterbattery (in range) for the early war. It is also effective for supression (fewer kills than heavier arty) on targets onboard.
