BattleMoons!
I just went and designed a BattleMoon for playtesting.
30,000 shields, 3600 regen 8,000 damage CoreMount HEM beam 3x 2,500 damage CoreMount Meson BLasters 15x 150 damage Massive Meson BLasters 250x 20 hitpoint Premium Ablative Armor. 50x quantum engines III, for one movement in combat. Assorted C&C. -VS- Contender DN's Assorted C&C 4x quantum engines III, for 5 movement in combat 220x 20 hitpoint Premium Ablative Armor 4x 450 damage Heavy Shield Depleter 11x 150 damage Heavy Ripper Beams I took 1 BattleMoon, vs 7 contenders, giving an equal maintenance cost. In the end, only one vehicle was left standing, the BattleMoon! But, the battlemoon lost just over 200 ablative armor components, and would have to be left in a typical spacedock for 2&1/2 years. Things to consider: DN's can be built in parallel, the battlemoon is one piece. The DN's here were excessively armored to get the most hitpoints in the available space... using shields could have reduced the costs, giving more ships to fight with. i bet an equal cost batch of LCs with psy-subverters or computer-viri would have really ruined the BMs day. I would contend that the BM needs a custom built stellar manipulation device that is basically a big anti-planet weapon that is not destroyed after use. either that or a giant ray that simultaniously ruins planet conditions and depletes resource values by something like -150%
I am a big fan of the custom guns / hull sizes / spinal and mini mounts, and i would really like to see them all put together and supported on the PBW server. its acutally set to do it now, we just need to pick a mod that many people will use. |

Try a Core-Mount anti-planet weapon like a neutron bomb. You could reduce the value and conditions to zero instantly, as long as you can get to the planet with one movement http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif. In P&N, there is a defense against weapon & shield destroying damage, and I will either have hardened MC components available, or make the allegiance subverter be a hand-held boarding party weapon. The third option is to embed the MC into the planetoid core, so you can't subvert them, only their "escorts". I really hate easy takeovers... I think that if you want to capture a ship (for tech, war duty, money, whatever) you need to work for it. Strip the shields and try to pick off the MC and SDD. You have to outnuber your enemy and get some lucky hits on the critical anti-capture components. |
