Errors report- OOB 4 Israel
Units 70 and 71
These are Abrams tanks available since 2005. While I personally remember the idea of sending Abrams to Israel being discussed at some point a few years ago, the thing never materialized. There are no israeli Abrams listed at the Middle East military balance, or www.israeli-weapons.com or pretty much anywhere else. They should be deleted. Unit 54 This is a Tiran 6 which is listed to be in service until 2010. This is pretty damn unlikely, to say the least. The Tiran are long gone, either sold to foreign customers or earmarked for conversion. www.tau.ac.il/jcss/balance/Israel.pdf does not even list them anymore. Ditto for the others sources I have seen. Its out of service date should be modified. |
Re: Errors report- OOB 4 Israel
I think the Abrams is just there for scenario designers to be used as an emergency reinforcement provided by the US (just like during the Yom Kippur war), should Israel ever come under a major Arab attack - therefore, I'd leave it in the OOB... everyone knows anyway that it's not really available and, given the vast choice of Merkavas and Magachs, I see no need to buy Abrams if I'd play Israel.

Re: Errors report- OOB 4 Israel
It must have been specifically added as it has an Israeli-style air recognition panel, unlike the USA desert versions. It has an X3 radio code so that it is only available for human purchase.
Therefore not a bug, it's provided for what-if situations. (If "allies" were needed, that is already provided by the ALLIES screen, these are for units in national format tank formations). Cheers Andy |
Re: Errors report- OOB 4 Israel
I remember that, several years ago, in some circles it was discussed the option of sending Abrams to Israel to boost the number of modern tanks, since at the time the Merkava aquisition program was supposedly running into some problems.I thought that these units were supposed to represent that as the 2005 date would have been consistent with that scenario.
If however they are there to represent an hypothetical emergency reinforcement program does being available from 2005 make sense? Maybe a bit earlier like 2001 for some hypothetical post 9/11 conflict? Any comment about the Tiran tanks? From what I gather they did not make it past the early 90's in service. The israeli spent the 80's getting rid of them by selling them (es. Uruguay), giving them to the SLA or converting them (Achzarit). There may still be a few tens of them sitting in some graveyard with about zero chance of coming back in service even in an emergency and that is. |
Re: Errors report- OOB 4 Israel
We will look into this whenever we do an OB update.
