Question about A0 HQ units

Hi, just a quick question regarding the defalt HQ unit in long campaigns. Does the A0 HQ always have higher infantry command points and low armoured command points by defalt? If I just wanted a small mainly armoured battlegroup it would be more usefull to have a leader with higher arm command yet you cant seem to get this. Can this be changed or adjusted? I only have the free download version so no editor options http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

On a similar note, if a I change my HQ to a tank after a few battles will his Arm command points beging to rise quicker?

The A0 is an administrative HQ - and as an HQ type has some FO characteristics.

Changing this to a vehicle will lose the artillery spotter advantages, and of course as a combat vehicle you will likely put it into risky situations, so tend to get him killed (campaign over). Or, it will be noticed more often by marauding planes, and so attacked and killed more often, ditto.

This game is not Steel Panthers 1 with its limit of 24 or whatever core in a campaign. In SP1 you really had to fight with all available units, with even the HQ having a role sometimes. With 200 core slots, there is no reason whatsoever to have the A0 do anything other than be what it represents - the forward HQ of a brigade/batallion battle group with no sane reason to get involved in combat. As such, its role is to stay near the baseline safely out of combat with no chance of the enemy "sacking the quarterback" and terminating the campaign. I doubt my HQ has ever fired a weapon in the last 100 campaign battles. Nor do I bother to give him a jeep or suchlike to whizz about.

I have no idea if it will raise armoured command value if you change it to a tank and go gung ho with it. Try it and see.

(However, calling in arty missions does raise the arty command of any HQ element).

Cheers
Andy

Thanks for the response Mobhack. I was aware of the the 200 core size. I just liked the idea of a upfront combatleader leading a small battlegroup. I see what your saying though, I had never previously thought of the A0 as a more admin/behind the lines unit. I'll just keep him tucked away at the rear as you suggest and use the company HQ as my combat leader.

I take it you can only edit and save senarios with the enhanced CD version?

Scenarios? - the standard scenario editor - that is what the "Editor" button does. It is only some extra scenario editor utilities that the CD version has over the free download.

You can use the DL version for this. The CD version just allows access to more advanced features, in particular the enhanced Map Editor.

Re: Question about A0 HQ units

I've converted few panzers into Befehlswagens by making them tracked Scout Vehicles and modifying their armament and ammo to fit the radios which I give a high 90's value. Yes you will get the armour rating to rise, however, like Andy said you run a much higher risk of getting your HQ blow'd up real good.

I have made it though campaigns, even with my Befehlswagen being hit and blown up, but, this was only because the crew survived, if they don't, like the man said the campaign ist tote. I've found another solution is to give them their own Halftrack, usually an FO Sdkfz 250/1. This way you can keep your CO closer to the action without being tempted to get your kills up.

This is usually my downfall when I jump into a BefehlsPanther or Tiger, I can't resist riding the thunder into battle and then having some JABO stick a 5 inch rocket in my butt http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif or some irrant PIAT Team toast my toes http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif.

Prosit!

Ive tried renaming my campaign save to a senario save and then raising the HQ's armoured command values in the senario editor but the DL version doesnt have a save function and so the standard editor is pretty much just cosmetic as far as i can see.

The scenario editor is the in-game editor reached by the Edit button on the game main screen. In the D/L version - the scenario editor is, and is reached by the "Edit" button it has some restrictions to editing data types, the clone units feature is only for the CD version etc. The leader command ratings are perfectly editable, however. (Buy troops, deploy button, "D" button, press the one with "unit leader", do required edits, save scenario).

ScenHack is a CD-only external scenario editor. It allows access to many more data items than the in-game editor. The free D/L version of the game allows you to use these CD features in a read-only mode in order to sample them.

Scenhack is not the "standard editor"
