Orania Nasty Edition - Combining Era in a MAP
I though I'd revamp Orania Nasty Edition (find it on the Illwinter website under Dom2 files) for Dom3. Of course, someof it doesn't translate too well. I few questions for people: what age should I set it as? Originally, all eras were mixed (it was Dom2.) Ideally, I'd like to keep the original mix, but it has a few conflicts. e.g. Niefleheim and ashen Ermor. Suggestions on a workaround were all nations a are human playable? I do _not_ want to resort to a mod file.
Any other thoughts/requests would be nice too. |
Re: Orania Nasty Edition - Combining Era in a MAP
Here is a Dom2 nations list:
0 Abysia 1 Atlantis 2 Pythium 3 Man 4 Ulm 5 Ctis 6 Arcoscephale 7 Caelum 8 Ermor 9 Marignon 10 Pangaea 11 Vanheim 12 Jotun 13 Rlyeh 14 Mictlan 15 Tien Chi 16 Machaka You also should look at the map file and see if it specifies themes for the nations so that you can find the matching age-version. Im guessing that Middle Age might involve the fewest changes |
Re: Orania Nasty Edition - Combining Era in a MAP
I have the Dom2 list, and I was leaning towards Early. Mostly, because early is already magic heavy, and adding mages and gems shouldn't be as hard as it would for Mid or Late. (What would you give LE man as start sites?)
Most nations are fairly compatible, but there are a couple of minor issues: 1) Pythium - Will be replaced with Sauromatioa 2)Man - Tuatha are close enough 3)Ermor is a bloody nuissance - will use Ehllheim and change everything, unless someone knows how to included them. Maybe if they were AI only... 4) Marignon will become Ermor, since they are somewhat similar, IMHO (from a non-background perspective) 5)Rlyeh - Not really the same, not really different. Not quite sure what I'll do - maybe mix them both by adding the illithid recruit site? 6) Machaka? Uhhhh... suggestions? maybe Lanka, because its cool? Or Kailasa? Or both? N.B. Anyone have nation numbers for Tuatha and Lanka? |

Great - thanks Gandalf.
Uhhh... why is Lanka 68? Isn't there supposed to be an order/logic to the list? |

No. Logic is a device of Shaitan.

Re: Orania Nasty Edition - Combining Era in a MAP
More questions:
Can a map be mod dependant. That is, can the file include things found only in mods, or some such. I can test, but my guess is yes, it will work, but an error will occur if it is loaded with the mod enabled. Anyone know for sure? Also, does the startspell command still work? I had heard (somewhere hereabouts) that it gave the spell, but the spell was lost after the first turn... Confirmation? |

Alright, it's is now playable - not perfect, but decent enough for me to distribute. If there is feedback, I'll make changes and add a few things. I'm tentatively planning on adding start spells, if and when they're fixed (they don't seem to work beyond the first turn right now) and putting Helheim on the map somewhere, maybe with a forced f9w9 computer god, to add another crazy strong race to play against. Ermorian territory, atm, is neutral and has nice sites, but if you can beat the armies I put there, I think it's a just reward. File is attached. Comments, especially on bugs/balance would be appreciated. Edit: NOW it's attached. Stupid forum. I have zipped it, since it wouldn't let me upload it as is. If you can't unzip it, try winRAR, although I can't imagine not being able to - it's a simple .zip archive. |
