error in se wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Empires_IV
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Empires It states the game was released in Nov 01, but it was Nov 00. look at when most of us registered to join here, for me it was Nov 2000. I know for a fact that SE IV wasn't released AFTER 9/11 I know this because I PLAYED it at Tribes Con 2001 in august |
Re: error in se wikipedia
uhh atrocities the point of a wiki is that you can change it yourself, also is it possible you were playing a beta version?
|
Re: error in se wikipedia
No, it was definitely 2000.
I didn't have my copy until January 2001. |
Re: error in se wikipedia
Combat, thanks for the heads up on the wiki thing, but I would rather leave the changing of things to those who know more about how to do such things.
As to the beta, the beta was released in August of 2000. I ordered my full copy from shrapnel games in September. The game was moved back twice into mid Novemeber of 2000. I remember being ticked off at shrapnel for charging me an astronomical amount for S&H. My first ship set was a Federation one released I think in Late December 2000. I played SE IV at TribesCon 3 in August 2001 and made a few dozen sales for Shrapnel there. Then 9/11 happened. If you look at the first posts made in this forum about this game you will see that most of them were made BEFORE 2001. I joined in Nov 2000, albeit it says I joined in Dec, but really it was Nov. (I recall it was right around thanksgiving.) So yes the information on the wiki page about when the game was originally release is in error. As to the date of Golds release, well I am not positive, but I believe that was in February of 2001. (?) I trust I have made a compelling case. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: error in se wikipedia
But then wouldn't it just be best to alert someone who is more familiar with the system to do it, rather then do it yourself, mess something up, and then someone else having to correct that error?

Re: error in se wikipedia
If everyone took that attitude, the Wiki would never be updated.
It's not like somebody's going to die because of a factual error in a bit of historical trivia. |
Re: error in se wikipedia
What attitude is that? That it's better to notify someone who knows how to do it rather then attempting to do it yourself and possibly make the person who comes after you have to correct your mistake? True, nobody's going to die from this, no matter how badly it gets screwed up, but it sounds like your advocating a policy of "just do it yourself even if you don't know what the hell your doing". And just like it would never get updated with my attitude, it seems to me with your attitude wiki would be even more messed up than it currently is. Not trying to start a fight or be a troll, it's just I deal with people who make mistakes and input incorrect data on a daily basis and I'm always the one who gets someone screaming in my ear because the first person either A) did not know what they were doing and just didnt want to ask for help B)was too lazy to actually do the correct thing so just did the quickest, or, C) honestly thought that what they were doing was right. C is perfectly understandable, but A and B make more work for someone else, and can generally give the person who has to fix the mistake negative thoughts and feelings towards whoever made the mistake.

Re: error in se wikipedia
Given the relative difficulty of editting Wikipedia, I'd say it's safe to say that anyone with computer skills sufficient to post on an online forum would have the ability to make a minor edit (such as the date of release of a game) without too much chance of messing it up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: error in se wikipedia
I have corrected the date & left a link to http://www.malfador.com/se4.html this page (which shows the earliest review in November 2000) in the edit history.
Don't be surprised if some self-important wikitard decides he knows better and changes it back, though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/yawn.gif |
