What class of units are immune to Astral Shield?

I assume mindless units. Anything else? High mr?

* and yes i read the spell description carefully, but not all spells work as described. And I am not really in the mood to test it.

It likely has the exact same rules as paralysis, and other mind attack spells.

If i remember correctly having a long weapon helps against astral shield.
If the weapon is long enough the attacker won't have to go through the astral shield in order to reach the enemy and thus will remain unaffected or something like that.
