National Heros

What causes the national Heros to show up? Is it based on Luck? I took luck (albeit only Luck 1) in the megagame, and still have not had one show up (turn 90 now). They do show up with that same pretender build in used in SP games though, so it could just be megagame wierdness.

Re: National Heros

You have 1% per luck scale of getting a hero each turn. This comes to a 6% chance with luck 3, and 0% at misfortune 3.

Thank you for the definitive answer, Sir Dr D.

What nation are you playing? Some nations in vanilla have 0 national heroes.

Which ones, after 3.10? Some of the monkey nations?

I wish the overall heroes were more balanced for the nations. Some heroes are weak and virtually worthless and others are powerful demi-gods. It would be more balanced if each nation had one normal hero, one powerful hero and one very powerful hero.

Since Gandalf isn't around, rock-paper-scissors balance.
Some nations get tough heroes, some get other bonuses.

More accurately, heroes are not really considered for balance. They're there for thematic reasons.

Worthy Heroes does a pretty good job of both balance and theme.

Well it's just sad when a completely worthless hero arrives at the capital, but I guess someone needs to hold the bag of wine while the armies are marching.

Yes I did forget to mention the Worthy Heroes mod... it's good.

I do agree. I don't mind some being really powerful and some just being useful, but almost all of the human non-mage heroes are functionally no better than a standard indy commander. They may have better stats or armor, but they're still not really good for anything except to haul troops around and stand at the back of the battle. Even the ones whose descriptions make them out to be great warriors are just too vulnerable to play thug. I don't know what the fix is.
