TCP IP connection problem

Last weekend I couldnt connect a blitz game over TCPiP by internet.

The other player did set up a server and the third player could connect but i couldnt.
Internet was working, and i could ping his IP fine, but Dominions 3 could not reach the server.

Odd is that I tried to create a server but in the screen where the nation slots are my IP was the LAN one (not the internet ip). Anyway probably thats normal but seems strange.

I was told to try telnet command. are there any dominions 3 server on that I can try to connect to test what the problem is?

on a side note i can connect to play battlefield 2. i dont know if it uses the same system of connection.
and my computer has not firewall on.

Gandalf Parker has some server. Just look at his comment and try to connect to them.

Getting your local IP is typical. I'm not certain what the problem is, really, though I'll think about it.

Strange indeed. I could connect to a Gandalf's Game instantly.
Maybe was something in between in the route to the other server.

It's possible that a firewall on the other server (or at the other server's ISP) is blocking the range of IP addresses originating in your country. Are you in the same country as the 3rd player who could connect, in your post at the top of this thread?

Could also be that you had a program using that port. Ask the person running the server to try an other port.

Re: TCP IP connection problem

Please say what operating system you are on. I assume it is some kind of Windows? Which version?

There may be firewalls that you are not aware of. Anti virus programs sometimes install one, Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing is one and on top of that it could be that the network settings are making trouble. I am not so sure what Windows does exactly when somebody creates a "network bridge" in the network settings, which some people like to do because Windows gives them that option, or maybe it is even added automatically, but I know that on our network lots of problems have been solved by just asking the users to delete that network bridge. More info please.
