Friendly fire and experience

Do missile troops, spellcasters, and units with AoE attacks get any experience for accidentally killing their own troops?

I suspect the answer is "no", but thought I'd ask anyway.

I believe not, but the troops you kill get experience for dying.

I've gotten several spell casters in the hall of fame this way, but I don't think they get experience for it. You only get the experience if you are fighting someone in melee.

I am not sure if only melee attacks result in experience. I often use a F5 mage casting flames from the sky and that one will always be in the hall of fame.
