Retiring status dependent on your score and fate?
Earlier today as I ended yet another game of RTIS, I pondered some on my final results and how I turned out as "a lawless space rogue" after reporting in to Major Brass and having received my reward. Only some twenty minutes later - I became an "arms dealer" instead and quite a successful one apparently.
This led me to became curious of these "career paths" that my pilot had taken. Are these given based upon your final score and way of ending the game (retired or KIA), or just some randomly scripted mumbo-jumbo? Because if not then I think it would be appropriate to a) provide us with a list (in-game or here on the website) of all the careers - ranked from the worst of them to the most grand, to give you a little more knowledge on just how well you performed and what's even more important b) write it out at the High Score list! Because IMO, that one looks rather boring when it's usually all just "Returned to Hope on time" with the occasional "Killed in action", followed by your score. If you actually have put some work into giving every pilot a somewhat unique ending based upon his success in space, then why not take it to the next level and actually make something out of it? Just like Sid Meier did with his Pirates; where half the fun with ending your career was to see where you stood once you sailed into a harbor and decided to retire. Did you end your life as a no-good swashbuckler, a wealthy merchant or perhaps even governor and just far away from the top were you?? Thoughts, hmm? http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/5433/careertf7.jpg |

I suspect that your final "career" is just a simple lookup of your score on a table of rank names.

Well that's good enough for me! If only they'd make the list official and so that it would show up on the High Score list http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I found what I thought was the list in "C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\Weird Worlds\default\gamedata\mission.ini", ConraDargo, but it doesn't seem to match up to the scores you're reporting.
Edit: See? Not really, no :S The "retired war hero" and "forgotten space pilot" was just something that I made up myself, but the other two are taken from my own high score list. Hm.

Re: Retiring status dependent on your score and fa
I agree, ConraDargo. We should have posted the new careers on the high score list somehow. I think it just came down to considering brevity, working on other things and a subjective choice.
Thanks for your in-poot! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: Retiring status dependent on your score and fa
I've played enough games now to realize that the table lookup is more complicated than I thought. Game length also affects what score you need to reach a given rank. I've been keeping records of my scores, but not game length, and I've ended up in the same rank in as many as four different score ranges.
