Software for converting JPEG\'s to IBM Files

Would somebody have a link to or small program that's free that does this deed. I have a need to update some of my pictures of newly created units.

Thanks in advance.

I think this is the one you are looking for but there may be others. I seem to recall hearing about this in the past.

Alternately, you might be able to find an old version of Paint Shop Pro on the net. PSP is what I used for 99% of the pics and graphics in the game.

That's a great viewer, but unfortunately it doesn't look like it can convert back into .lbm. Its got a really nice thumbnail feature that allows one to look at all the stock .lbms at a glance which is nice though.

Quick question. Is there anything you need to do when saving an .lbm file that's special? Plasmakrab sent me a number of pictures in .lbm format, but had names, and when I assigned them arbitrary numbers and tried to view them in Mobhack they didn't show because the numbers I had chosen didn't align with the numbers that registered in the LBM ID field in Mobhack's viewer. How are these ID numbers set?

Have you tried The GIMP? I've only used it for editing scans but it does a good job. According to the manual it may very well do what you want. It is free, however it is not small
(requires 128 meg RAM).

Available here:http://www.gimp.org/windows/

I have tried the GIMP for LBMs - there was a plugin several releases back but it has never worked for me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Yeah, you'd need a plugin unfortunately. I use the GIMP for my regular image editing these days though. Good program.

I did all my trains icons in GIMP. It has almost all the features of Photoshop with none of the price.

All LBM's used in the game need to be prefaced "PM" when they are saved then be followed by five numbers only so you cannot just use arbitrary numbers. When entering a number in MOBHack the "PM" is assumed so all you need is the five numbers. There are over 5200 PICS in MBT now and another 3800+ in SPWW2 so just follow the same naming conventions as the 9000 that are in there now.

They also need to be 160x80 and you must use the JASC_WINSP_PICPAL.pal provided with the game for B&W photos or the JASC_WINSP_COLOUR_PICPAL.pal if you are making colour photos

Re: Software for converting JPEG\'s to IBM Files

Okay, I was asking, because I had thought I followed the format. What I did was I recieved the files and renamed them PM70000, PM70001, etc, but when I went in and tried to view them in those positions I couldn't because while the file name was that, their ID numbers were in the 3000 block (PM03000). I could only view them when I renamed them so that they matched their LBM ID as displayed by the viewer.

How the LBM ID was different from the different PMXXXXX number I had assigned was where I was confused. Though I think I just figured it out. Can you not simply rename these files? Do they have to be saved as that? That might be the source of the issue I realize. I just manually renamed them.

65534 is the highest number the game will accept. After that it starts counting from zero again.
