Re: PBEM

ok, I'm looking for advice here
I'm sending corrupt files. Now I haven't been using Winzip, maybe that's the difference.
also I have fast artillary on, when I used to play Camo WW2 PBEM that might have been a no no, can't remember, it's been a while.

I've read the PBEM manual, it mentioned something about sending three files not two, but doesn't say what the third should be.
Any thoughts or advice would be welcomed

Re: PBEM

1) Don't use fast arty, if your opponent is also not using fast arty. Agree that point before starting the game with the other admin.

2) Don't send raw DAT files in emails! - use Winzip. As well as compressing the files so your email is not too big, it does some data preservation stuff should transmission erors occur - sending raw data files as attachments may not do this (and anti-virus scans or burying them in HTML emails etc may do things to them?).

Zip up each turn (and use a file name with the turn number) - do not try to reuse the same zip file, or some day you will mess up!. Plus, having the various turns with number etc in the file name, may help if you have to restore to a point due to operator error. Don't delete the zip files till after the game is done.

3) There are 2 (Two) files to send - the PBEM save game CMT file (which has the file name in it) and the DAT file, as described in the Game Guide. There have not been 3 files since the early DOS SpWW2 days. The CMT file can be dropped after turn 1 setup, as it will remain the same, if you feel necessary to save a few bytes of email bandwidth.

Cheers
Andy
