Teleporting Gun Crew Bug
 
Ran into a bug in a secure PBEM battle. I think this is what went down:

Turn 17a I Bail out a gun crew. My British Half-track drives onto the gun's hex and loads gun crew.

18a My HT drives off gun hex and notices the gun is still manned by a crew and HT shows a crew as passengers!

18a So I unload crew and discover passengers are a German gun crew! Brief firefight ensues… German crew flee.

18b My Opponent reports that he had a gun crew who abandoned their gun (several KM to the east of my Gun troop) as a result of artillery strikes. He went to rally them, but found the crew is now several KM away were my HT had unloaded them.

19a Firefight continues and German gun crew are wiped out.

Let me know which turn files or any info. you need and I will post it.

I'd need the save just before you bailed your crew, or just as you loaded the gun crew. And passwords for both sides.

However - it's highly unlikely that the arty would fall in exactly the right place and make the German gun crew abandon, even after several goes (and/or whatever makes the swap happen is flaky as well so even if they do, then they don't http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif!) - so likely to be an utter pain to debug, if it even could happen.

I've never seen anything like that happen, or reports of it, so it would be useful to have the save to see if something can be seen from it.

If all you have is a save where the swap has already occurred, then that would not be any use at all.

Funnily enough, this has just one happened to me in my UK LC, with a 2 pdr crew that had gone walkies - some nasty Jerries appeared in amongst my Brit defenders (briefly! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif).

I have played about a bit (without debugging) with the save games to test a theory or 2, and think I have the problem area in sight. Now to break out the debugger and confirm my suspicions!.

Glad you've got the little gremlins responsible for this mischief in your sights.

I hadn't forgotten about the file, and passwords. I just thought I'd wait until this weekend when our battle should end; because I didn't want to put my opponent in an awkward position by asking for his password before the game was over http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Looks like I found the problem, it was in original code so has been there since SP2 at least. Now fixed (MBT and WW2).

Good catch! - the circumstances where this one happen are rather rare.
