OT: Epiphany

My son, who turned three a month ago, has a computer game he plays. It's called "Jumpstart Kindergarten", and soon after the opening screen, there is a prompt to choose your name from a list. He had put in several gibberish names, mostly strings of repeated characters. I've known for about a week he'd been able to select his name from the list, but just tonight, I had the epiphany: he can read his name!

He then dazzled me with his deftness at navigating the game with a mouse and his grasp of the 'undo' feature. He then asked to see the fireworks. Of course, his definition of 'fireworks' is watching the ships battle in SEIV. So I obliged him. He like it a lot.

So my nefarious plan is coming to fruition: he will know computers and love strategy games. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Thank God he's got his mother's personality, so he's outgoing and sensible!

I'm sorry if I seem to be bragging. I'm just amazed with my son, and would not give him up for anything in the world. Who says miracles don't happen? (Aww....)

P.S. If you're thinking of having a kid, I'd say go for it. But one at a time. They seem so much easier that way....

My 2 1/2 year old is sitting at our other computer playing on the Playhouse Disney web site. Isn't it amazing to watch how they grow and learn? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon6.gif

If you haven't tried it before, check out

I suspect that your son will enjoy it alot.

My son turned 2 in March. He likes to play with the computer but doesn't really know what is going on other than the mouse is moving. He is pretty good at hitting the reset button at the worst possible time, though. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

We took him out there maybe a year ago, but he really didn't get into it then. I'm sure he'd like it a lot more now.

dl: I remember when he was that young holding my sleeping son in my arms while trying to play Baldur's Gate. He likes the fighting in that one too (though I had to turn off the excessive gore!).

I have a feeling all our kids are going to be teaching their daddies some things in just a few short years! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon10.gif

I bought all my childern computers when they turned 2.
My 9 yr old now fixes small problems the computers at his school and teachs the teachers how to use them.
My 3 yr old can tell you the addresses for most childern sites (i.e. (www.nickjr.com)
He knows how to get on the web and load up his own games on the pc.

Take time to teach them and they will learn.
