Would the AI recognize a self-destruct device?

In my solo games I rely on captured enemy ships to expand my fleets, my ships were designed with this and the fact that I do all of my battles in tactical mode in mind. I've just started my first PBW game and I wonder how smart the AI is using some strangely designed ships, since I've almost never used it to do my battles before. Would it recognise a self destruct device and NOT board the ship? Would it know how to make use of the close combat DNs to kill off the engines and shield generators on an enemy ship before ordering the "Big Guns" DNs to shoot?

In my experience, boarding ships run away until the shields fall, then run back towards the ships. Problem is, by the time they get back the ship is ussually destroyed..

I haven't tried it myself so I can't say for sure, but from what I have read here, people have the best luck with putting regular weapons on the boarding ships too. That keeps them close enough to get to the ship when the shields go down.

Also, I don't think the ai is smart enough to avoid ships with self destruct. I say this from experience playing the ai when they were trying to board my ships that had SDD's.
