How to Get Image in .map or .tga Format ?
I am usually a few mental steps behind everyone else when it comes to technology so bear with me on this. I would like to create a map, I have an image in .jpeg format, and I have skimmed the Map creating FAQ that came with the game. While I may be missing the obvious, my question is how do I get the map or tga file? Can I convert a jpeg file into .tga or.map? The FAQ seems to assume one already has the .map or .tga file ready to load. Is there a program I need?
Thanks! |
Re: How to Get Image in .map or .tga Format ?
JPEG image most probably has some sort of compression in it, which would screw up the white dots that mark province centers.
You can use something like IrfanView, which is small program designed to be able to show as many image types as possible, and transform images of one type to another. Many image-editing programs, like Gimp and Photoshop, can also save in .tga or targa format. What it's called changes from program to program. You can also use .rgb images as maps if you have further trouble with targa files, but .rgb isn't that type common either. The .map isn't an image file, but a text file. You can write one in notepad by saving the file as "mapname.map". If you don't use the quotes, the filetype won't be changed but instead the file will be mapname.map.txt, which won't work. The map editor that's available from Dom3's Game Tools is probably able to create the .map file from scratch, and is a relatively easy way to get your map into working condition. You can use it to set terrains, neighbours and such. |

Thanks Endoperez - I will check out IrfanView and if that doesn't work check with a friend of mine who is a PhotoShop wizard.
