While play testing Space Empires V, I ran into several bugs.
I encountered a fighter bug half way into the playtest, where fighters that had previously attacked enemy ships inexplicably turned tail and ran, both on my side and the A.I.. Also, the combat simulator was always buggy, and many turns into the game running it made all ship images disappear, followed soon thereafter by a crash.

Big disappointment, since I have very fond memories of SE IV, and had hoped that SE V would be the next big step forward. But, I've come to the conclusion that it is too buggy to serve as the basis for a really fun multi-player game. I would really hate to be 50 turns in and discover that something didn't work as expected, seriously hampering someone's long term strategy!

So, I'm considering suggesting to my players that we play an SE IV game. However, I only have my copy from ages ago, and I see that SE IV Gold is now out of print. Does anyone have a suggestion about where the best place to buy unopened copies of SE IV Gold? Also, is there perchance a version of SE IV for the Mac? One of my players is Mac only.

Also, where can I learn about the best mods for SE IV?

SE4 Deluxe (ie Gold) is readily available from Strategy First for low cost.

No SE4 for Mac, but Macs have PC emulators...

Didn't SEIV come on the SEV disk? That may be only for some copies though.

Strategy first offered a bundle package, but I can't imagine them being on the same disk.

Ah Haa, made me look. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Yes, my copy has both V and IV on it. One disk. Unfortunately, that won't help Dogboy because if that was what he had I am sure it would be known. I got mine at GameStop. It has a sticker on the outside saying "Exclusive Bonus Edition" "Includes SEIV Deluxe".
