Illwinter Ritual Expectations

Anyone with "receiving end" experience with the Illwinter Ritual? How does it manifest itself exactly (what is a typical Illwinter encounter)? Does it beat up PD or only mobile parties? The spell suggests a ramp up to full potential. Curious.

Last I heard Illwinter is buged. It produces a few winter wolves with no leaders that promptly rout. I have never used it myself, just what I heard on the forums.

ACtually it does produce a leader at least sometimes, a niefel giant to be precise. Since it doesn't have any magic leadership and winter wolves are magic beings so they just dissolve. Still the giant can do some damage on it's own.

Besides the the attacks are as far as i know more of a bonus and it's major effect is that it makes the entire world colder and increases unrest.

Haven't used it much so i don't know how effective it is but i imagine it can cause some problems for hest loving nations like ctis etc.

Only tried it in SP - it attacks whoever is in the province (PD + others).

I couldn't really notice a big impact on the game, other than 1-3 random attacks each turn, of which maybe 50% were decent.

Thanks for the feedback all. Now I wonder what I tell the mothers of those 100 virgins I sacrificed to cast it.

"Dear Mrs. Wilkins,

Your daughter's sacrifice was greatly appreciated by the Utgardian War Ministry. Thanks to your daughter (and others) giving their life, it is now much colder outside. In hindsight we might have opted for imps. Lot and lots of imps.

Sincerely,
Utgard Ministry of Blood Magic"

You would think a spell named after the company would have receive a little more dev-love and have just a little bit more oomph to it.

Niefelheim, on the other hand, loves cold. Cold power + Niefel Jarl = serious killing.

The attacks do build up over time, as I recall. I had it cast for a long time in an SP game, and the attacks became pretty good after a while. It seems like cold dominion helped them.

Of course, you would not want to cast this in an MP game, unless you were at war with everyone else. The attacks are totally random, and can hit anyone.

Good to know. I was probably being impatient with TC galloping through my southern lands and Mictlan's bone fiends playing handball on my Capital’s castle walls (they use actual hands). I now see Mictlan’s summoned Arch Devils scribbling graffiti on my gate (their spelling is atrocious for being a minor deity.. “devells rool, gints drule!” and “gints ar stupud iirc!”)
