Posting Annoyance-to the boardsmanager or whatev.
I don't know if this has ever come up before, and I'd rather not wade through a billion posts to find out, but is there any way that the forum can be set up so that, if you're dumb enough to accidentally post something without a title-like I am-that it doesn't instantly and irrevocably erase the 500 word essay you've just written?
Maybe it would take more resources than are available, or maybe it's really hard to code in, but if there were a way to simply backspace and put your title in, without losing everything, it would really enhance my life no end, let alone my Shrapnel Forums experience. Thanks! ~loyal customer |

The forum software will be changing soon, I will do some testing on our test board to see if the new software has this problem. As far as doing anything with this current software, at this point the Law of Diminishing Returns applies since we will be moving to the new software soon.

Re: Posting Annoyance-to the boardsmanager or what
HoneyBadger,
When I anticipate a long post I tend to work it up in notepad and then copy & paste it into the browser. This way if my connection falters or if there is a glitch, I can simply copy & paste again with little time lost. This is especially useful if you have a heavily formatted topic that you need to edit occasionally. Edit the post and then copy the text with formatting code and links into notepad, make the desired changes then perform a select all, followed by a CNTRL+V to paste in the new text. Now if the submission bombs, you can recover easily. For relatively short posts I will hit CNTRL+A (select all), and then CNTRL+C (copy) before submitting. If the post fails, all you need is CNTRL+V (paste) your work from the clipboard and continue. Hope this helps to save you some headaches in the future. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (I spent several years struggling with dial-up and the corresponding connection time outs and learned not to trust my work with it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif) |
Re: Posting Annoyance-to the boardsmanager or what
It's a good idea, Ballbarian, but the way I write is fairly immediate, fairly manic, and there's very little anticipation involved. If I thought ahead to copypaste something, I wouldn't have these problems. I'm not asking that the forum software function as my personal secretary, or anything like that-if I lose something, it's my fault, or atleast my reality-but it would be nice if there were a little bit more leeway, as in "desk to trashcan to furnace", instead of just "desk to furnace" at the click of a button. For one thing, I've got a cat, and he can click buttons too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Thanks for replying back Mindy, I'm glad to hear the new software's in the works. |
