Overtaxation

Has anyone looked into the net revenue from overtaxing without patrolling? My BOTE calculations indicate that if you crank taxes up to 200 and don't patrol, you peak at +1.7 turn's income from that province and by turn 9 are just breaking even. I haven't taken population death into account but as I recall it's a small-order factor.

I'm interested because if you don't think you're going to hold a territory, overtaxation is a way of transferring money from HIS (future) pocket into your (current) pocket.

Taxing calculations were done with several different scales and different tax settings... you'll need to search for the thread.

Do you really need exact calculations for the scenario of a prov you arent going to be able to hold? Just crank it to 200 and set the PD to 1.

Re: Overtaxation

Depends upon how long you're going to hold it. In the early game, you may conquer a province and then discover that it's between two other nations and not geographically defensive from your home province. You stop expanding in that direction and explore elsewhere, but you figure you'll lose that province eventually. It's useful to know that 200% taxation will never get you more than 1.7 turns ahead but won't fall behind for 9 turns. I'll crank the numbers later but it's possible that if you think it will hold for 6-10 turns that a lower tax rate will net more income over that time span.

Still, I guess I'm curious more mathematically than for gameplay-related reasons. I wonder if the income progression is somehow isomorphic with the harmonic numbers. Probably not quite.
