Repair points
I think the unspent repair points accumulate over time but what is the maximum value you can store up to use later?

Re: Repair points
Is there a way to reduce repair points to almost nothing? For example, if I have a battalion sized force, I would want to restrict repair points to a maximum of maybe 200 after every battle, rather than the more normal couple of thousand.
Bear in mind, I always generate campaigns on the "hardest" setting (-20% repair points), I just want to be able to decrease that to -80% or -90%). |
Re: Repair points
If you are already playing at the hardest level then no. That's as little number of repair points that you can get.
I don't really see the problem here. If you don't want to use any more than a couple hundred repair points max then don't use any more than a couple hundred max. Simple. Don |

I know Don, but its just so tempting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Actually, lately I've been using SPMBT as a bit of an RPG, playing as the German 28th Panzer Bde in 1985 (using the OOB from Fulda Gap 85) versus the 79th Guards Tank Division (using the trick someone showed me a while ago so that you can pick your campaign opponents units for them), so I've got vast reams of spreadsheets, etc. to work out what units have how many men replaced/units repaired after each battle. I think I've run into a problem though, because the AI makes the campaign incredibly unbalanced from battle to battle. I've found that I can destroy an entire tank AND motorised rifle regiment (90% kill rate, the rest abandoned or fled)with just a Pzgr Co and a Leo II Co (with assorted extras, such as ammo trucks, a handful of PAH1's and the occasional Jaguar platoon). However, if my formation is company size or less I regularly get my arse handed to me by an equal or slightly larger sized force of Russians. My main problem isn't getting my arse handed to me, I quite enjoy fighting desperate battles instead of shooting practice type battles, the problem is when an entire Russian regiment or more is wiped out. This messes with my calculations, especially in regards to repairs/replacements for the AI between battles. I know people have surely asked this before, but isn't there a way to make the AI run like hell if over a certain percentage of a given formation has been destroyed (with the percentage depending on average morale of the formation and what type of battle it is)? |
Re: Repair points
Something to keep in mind is that the Soviets don't rebuild units/formations the same was as western armies do. A Soviet Regiment goes until it's casualties reach 2/3's then it is withdrawn from battle and the survivors used as cadre to create a new Regiment. If you want your campaign to be historically accurate, after that 2/4rds is reached, the next battle will be against a Soviet "B" Echelon, assuming you started off against a GSF-G Formation. IIRC, there were a huge number of B Formations. When those ran out, there was the Soviet version of the national guard.
So You would start off against current MBT, BMP, and well armed infantry and the B echelon would have T-55/54's BTR's and a lower percentage of automatic weapns, less ATGM's more RPG's, etc. Then the reserves show up with T-34/85's, bolt action rifles and hand grenades. After those are gone, it's pitchforks and rocks (miscellaenous small arms, anyone?). Russians DON'T throw weapons away. They have been down to pitchforks and rocks to many times in history to forget the basics. No ammo re-supply for Soviet forces. |
