Sound Mod for WinSPMBT

There's a sound mod available for MBT. It was originally developed for WinSPWW2, but as MBT uses the same sound map it works just as well with MBT. (As long as your install is using the default WAV sounds not MP3)

You can read more about it here:

http://www.theblitz.org/message_boar....php?tid=46677

This mod only changes the wav files (actual sounds), so can be installed mid-battle with no PBEM, security or OOB problems.

However, this mod is not endorsed or supported by Shrapnel Games or The Camo Workshop. Here's their advisory on mods:

"This mod contains highly altered or additional files that may or will cause interference with the master game files and it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that this mod be installed and played ONLY in a separate copy of the game and NOT run from the master game"

I'm using it in WW2 only so my games have a different favour between MBT & WW2. It is very nicely done.

Bravo Zulu to Cross on a job well done.

how do you know if the game is using wav or mp3's? Is there a way to change it?

Go to your sounds folder. Probably located here:

C:\Program Files\Shrapnel Games\The Camo Workshop\WinSPMBT\Game Data\Sounds

In your sounds folder is a file called 'sounds.ini'
Open the file with notepad.
If the sounds listed have a wav extension, you are using wav files; if they have a MP3 extension, you are using MP3.

Example:

sound000="1click.WAV"
sound001="1.WAV"
sound002="2.WAV"
sound003="Null.WAV"
sound004="4.WAV"

OR

sound000="1click.mp3"
sound001="1.mp3"
sound002="2.mp3"
sound003="Null.mp3"
sound004="4.mp3"

Yes.

In your Sounds folder, you should have about 150 MP3 files and 150 duplicate WAV files.

SPCAMO have provided us with two 'sounds.ini' files.
One for MP3 and one for WAV.

If your 'sounds.ini' file is pointing to MP3 files, rename the file 'MP3sounds.ini' (to keep it for possible future use).
Then find the WAV sounds.ini file. This may be in a folder called "WAV" in your Sounds folder.
Move, or copy and paste the ini file into the main sounds folder, and make sure it's named: "sounds.ini".

You should now be using wav sounds.

If you have any problems or questions post on this thread and we'll try to trouble-shoot it...

NB. This is only for MBT, because SPWW2 only ever came with WAV files.

Go to the following link:

http://www.theblitz.org/message_boar....php?tid=46677

About half way down the post you'll see this:

If you want the full 22MB rar (41MB when unzipped) file install:

Cross Sounds 0.7

Click on the 'Cross Sounds 0.7' and and that'll take you to the download.

Re: Sound Mod for WinSPMBT

Good timing on this discussion! I've been doing some investigation recently into the sound files and MobHack to better understand why certain weapons have the sounds that they do in the game.

Cross, above you'd noted:
"In your Sounds folder, you should have about 150 MP3 files and 150 duplicate WAV files.
SPCAMO have provided us with two 'sounds.ini' files. One for MP3 and one for WAV."

I saw that, and also saw how WinSPWW2 only uses .wav files. I listened to all of the files to make a catalog for reference. While most do match by sound file number as an identical WinSPWW2 .wav, WinSPMBT .mp3, and WinSPMBT .wav, I found four instances of sounds that did not match up.

Sound
File#____WW2.wav__________MBT.mp3___________MBT.wa v
55______Long auto burst_____Long auto burst______High-cyclic SMG
111_____Low-cyclic MG______Medium-cyclic MG____Medium-cyclic MG
113_____Two MG bursts_____Sustained MG________Sustained MG
117_____Two MG bursts_____Three MG bursts______Three MG bursts
