Names files
Out of curiosity is there any reason why replacing one of the leader files with a modified one would result in the game randomly selecting names from other files? I know none of that level of mucking around is supported, but I tried creating a mirror install of the game and then replacing a number of leader files and when I tested it out, only about half were ones found in the files that I had changed. It didn't seem to be based on length or any other readily understandable pattern, and was picking from all over the board (no discernible pattern in selection of the incorrect names which came from a number of files).
Just wonder if there is any reason for this. Would installing the patches incorrectly have affected this? I've reinstalled and things are back to normal, but I haven't attempted to replace the files again. |
Re: Names files
your probable cause of error is incorrect leader file format.
Any of - too few/many leader names per name file, or leader names too long, or using non-ASCII character files. Have you read "Names.txt" in the \names folder? Cheers Andy |
Re: Names files
Heh, there's a readme? No, I missed that, will do, sorry for not looking. Sometimes I'm never entirely sure how much help is already included for modders doing such work. Will go read now, I'm sure its because certain names are too long, too many or too few names.
EDIT- Yup, simple enough, not long enough, some names too long. Thanks! |
