carrier orders vs. fighter orders

I can't give orders directly to fighters that are inside carriers. So, if I give my carrier orders (such as attack enemy fighters), will the fighters it launches follow that order? Or, will they follow whatever orders are specified in their ship design?
Thanks!

You can't give orders "directly to the carriers" either.

You've got design strategies, and fleet strategies. Once the fighters are launched, they will do whatever their design strategy is set for... the carrier has nothing to do with it beyond spawning them in the first place.

Re: carrier orders vs. fighter orders

Let me reformulate the question. Suppose I have a carrier in a fleet with a particular strategy, and have "break formation immediately" set to "False". My understanding is that the carrier will then travel with the fleet, in formation, and follow fleet orders. (My understanding is that if I had checked "True", it would break formation and act according to the strategy I named when I designed it.) If this is correct so far, my question is: can the fighters be made to follow the fleet strategy, or will they do whatever strategy was assigned to them when they were designed? A related point is that if fighters are already launched, and are now part of the fleet, I believe they will follow whatever the task force strategy is. Is that correct?

Sorry to be so long winded, and thanks for considering my query!

Ah, in that case, freshly launched fighters would not be in the fleet.
Only a fighter group that has joined the fleet would be in the fleet.

The first assumption seems valid - a fighter group in a fleet would follow its task force strategy. Launched fighters I would guess follow their design type strategy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they followed the strategy of the task force that the carrier was in either.

Thank you! So, the tactic selected when designing fighters is key, if they are to be launched from carriers. And, you can build different fighters with tactics for different roles (engage enemy fighters, attack unarmed ships, etc.).

You might want to test that launched fighter theory.
