ATF vs BCT: what´s the deal?

Is ATF a more modern, improved version of BCT? Or are they wholly different games? If the latter, what are the main differences/which is better?

ATF (and its successors, Raging Tiger, The Falklands War, and The Star and the Crescent) is a much more powerful game engine. In addition to a much more detailed model for simulation of vehicle-on-vehicle combat, it also includes a new, friendly AI layer that allows you to control the fight at the company, platoon, or individual vehicle level, as you choose. You can give orders to a company, break out one platoon to directly control, and then decide to tell one vehicle to deviate from the overall platoon plan.

The graphics engine is also upgraded, and the game includes a number of other AI perks, like movement formations and scripted missions which replicate real military execution.
