WinSPWW/WinSPMBT and the GeForce 8500 GT

Hi all,

Apologies if this question has been answered elsewhere, but a quick forum search provided no answer...

I have used WinSPWW2 and WinSPMBT for some time, but since fitting a GeForce 8500 GT card to my machine, I have experienced random CTD's a few minutes after starting each game, whether in windowed or full-screen mode, and regardless of screen resolution.

I have recently been made aware that my card can cause problems with some programs, especially those based on older technology. So my question is, is there anyone out there with this card who has got the games running successfully? Will the new v4.0/v3.0 patches remedy the solution, or are there some settings I can change to get things up and running again? I'm suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms!

Thanks in advance,

Rich

Two questions spring to mind right off

1- have you installed the latest drivers for this card?

2- what operating system are you using ?

Should have mentioned

My current driver version is 175.19 - this is the version I was directed to by the search engine on the nVidia website, and I'm running XP Pro SP2. My computer otherwise meets the spec for WinSP, and as I say, I had no problems with my old onboard Intel graphics chipset. I would simply go back to using that chipset, but I would need to physically remove the nVidia card to do so - a hassle I want to avoid.

As an aside, I'm not sure if having the latest drivers is a good thing - I have read that the newer drivers are part of the reason that this card does not get on with older programs (if that is actually the problem I am having here)
