Twist Fate

I am still unclear about this spell. Does it negate any kind of attack whatsoever, whether magical or mundane? That is, if a mage perpetually casts Twist Fate on every battle turn, can he survive to infinity? Or is there a type of attack or spell that Twist Fate won't protect you against in battle?

Part of the reason why I am so eager to know more about this topic is that I always use Astral Bless. Obviously, if Twist Fate only protects you from a limited variety of damages, then I've been sinking a lot of points on something of limited use.

AFAIK it protects the unit totally against any kind of damage, but just the first time the unit should be damaged - then it's removed, so no, nobody can survive to infinity casting this, he would be protected just by the first damage he takes after the casting and then the other hits of the round would damage him normally.
It's not that good IMHO.

It's not worth too much in melee, I'd say. It does have certain benefits before your troops reach melee range, as it'll protect them from, say, Gifts From Heaven or Shimmering Fields. You can think of it as a sort of freebie Fog Warriors for sacreds.

It protects against spell damage, too.
Maybe you could desing a "damage spell blocker" around it.

I once watched the arena fights and saw a fight between marignon and someone else. I can't remember who it was but he'd sent some nasty mage to the arena while Marignon only sent a Chartmaker.
So I thought the chartmaker was toast but still I watched.
In the first round the chartmaker cast Twist Fate and the other mage a damage spell.
So I though with his protection gone the chartmaker should be dead soon but he just cast Twist Fate again. And the other mage wasted another spell and like this it went on for some more rounds until the enemy mage passed out from fatigue.
The chartmaker just stepped up and killed him with the sword.

I am more concerned about insta-death type of spells like Soul Slay and Petrification, as well as spells that effectively renders you useless like Paralyze.

Re: Twist Fate

Soul Slay/Petrify I think basically do 999 damage, so should be protected against. Paralyse might well be prevented, but I'm not so sure.

Twist fate doesn't protect against insta-death spells.

LOL, so if you are playing a high-HP race (e.g. Niefelheim) then it's somewhat of a waste to go for max Astral Bless for Twist Fate?

Re: Twist Fate

An astral bless is probably a waste for niefel. Twist fate does little good for them and their sacreds start with 15MR. Maybe if you want astral for late game, but you've got blood and death with them already. But I've never played them, so maybe I'm missing something.
