Difficulty understanding hit point bonusses...

Hi,

I've asked several guys and looked up the manual, but I don't get how hit point bonusses are applied.

The ones without Dominion bonus usually work out straight forward, but once dominion bonus comes in, I get "obvious" displays like

Basic HP: 14
Dom bonus: +16
Heroic: +12
Current HP: 55

Similar it goes for a pretender in hostile dominion provinces - the numbers in battle are not correct at all. Is there a "slowly decaying/increasing over time in hostile/friendly dominion" thingy?

Can anyone enlighten me on that part?

Whats probably confusing things is the dominion bonus for prophets and pretenders. As dominion levels change (or the unit moves into a different territory), the bonus changes. However, "current HP" is not necessarily the same as base HP. I do not believe units can loose HP unless they are hit with some type of damage. However, at the end of a turn they're current HP will always heal up to at least their current base HP. Hence, it makes sense to rotate a Prtender in and out of enemy dominion back to where their dominion is strongest.

You can also see this effect with units with some type of HP drain.

Prophets' and pretenders' hit points bonus in battle is displayed for the province you are currently fighting in, but the hit points bonus you entered the fight with is the one calculated in the province you moved from. So if the two provinces have different number of candles, you will see such numbers that don't add up.

Regeneration is calculated based on the hit points in the province you are fighting and it won't take effect until you drop below that number of hit points.

There's a minor display bug with hit points.

+50 % hp from heroic hp bonus, and +50% from being prophet in friendly dominion, show like:
Basic hp: 20
dom +10
heroic: +10,

But it really it 20 * 1.5 * 1.5 = 45

Hp change over time in hostile dominion, as other said.

Ah, mivayan, that's an explanation fitting the calculation in my example above.

Now, in regards to enemy dominion - will it change over time, or just not fill up to more than the current max (say, you enter with 100HP, your max in enemy dominion is 50HP, and in the first fight you drop to 60HP - nothing happens, since you're still above 50HP. Then, next fight you drop to 30HP and then return to the new max of 50HP), or is it also a real "over-time" process that would work even if you don't move or fight?

I think the amount of hp goes down over time, but not all at once. Even if you aren't fighting but your prophet is on the move, you can have some but not all of the extra hp from two turns ago etc.

For pretenders and prophets, they automatically refill to current domain HP IF they have less HP before. If they have more HP than current domain HP, they lose 1/2 of the difference every turn.

You can also see this effect when someone ends a battle with more HP than his maximum due to life-drain weapons, Drain Life spell, or Soul Vortex. I didn't know it was a 50%-per-turn decay but that sounds about right.
