Mod Idea: MercenaryRecruiting
 
Mod the appropriate mercenaries so they either auto summon their appropriate troop type, each turn.. something like summon 1...

Or can issue an order to recruit new troops.

Some mercenary commanders are also units used by nations/summons etc, which might cause problems.

I'm not sure where the troops would go. Normally if you summon troops they are automatically added to squad 1 under the commander if possible.

It's a very easy mod to make so rather than just having the idea, I suggest making it and seeing how it actually works out.

Yeah but you cannot refresh the merc's squad as is even if you were from their race. I think that the merc commander should be able to completely refil their troop retenue once a month to the starting strength. Most the merc's are useless after their troops have been killed off. The merc commanders use their fame to recruit, train and equipt new troops at some additional cost to the sponcering nation, if posible. It should be a job for the dev team and add it as a patch, but that is just my oppinion.

Not doable for commander types that are also summonable/recruitable. But the making the independent type captains like Hector Stark summon one unit of a specific type every turn would work. The problem is that there are only two types of captain (infantry and cavalry) but more than two types of mercenary unit. So they would all summon the same type of mercenary infantry regardless of what the initial composition was.

I know, I proposed it myself on June 22, 2007, on the 18th page of the Wish-List for Dominions 4 thread ;) Thus my above thanks to Foodstamp, and my sincere hope that someone will finally do something with it, after a year and a half :p

"The merc thing isn't bad, although the way I'd do it is give the commander units the Merc ability, which makes them freespawners for whatever their particular specialty is-elephants, icthys, villains, pirates, whatever, and then you hire the mercenary captain from the merc pool, and you get the captain and whatever starting troops, and the captain freespawns for whoever's paying the bills.

The longer you pay, the more benefit you get."

I was, myself, inspired by Chrispedersen, who proposed that mercs be able to recruit, to "get a little strength back".

So, ultimately, this is an old idea that Chrispedersen apparently forgot he'd had.
