Vehicle Weight

I noticed when I was flicking through the encyclopaedia that there is ‘load cost’ data for vehicles – including tanks. What influence does this ‘weight’ factor have on the game – if any? Does it have any effect upon a vehicle’s ability to traverse treacherous terrain (swamp, mud etc), ford streams, climb slopes or cross wooden bridges?

The short answer is vehicle weight is an abstraction who's primary purpose with tanks etc in the game is to ensure you cannot load 100 tanks into a landing barge.

Empirically from old SP2 times, it was ca. 3/4 of real weight (in metric tons) atleast for tanks etc., so that even Abrams or King Tiger can be loaded into a landing barge (upper weight limit is 55).

Now I see. Even tanks can be loaded onto something else in the game - landing craft. Thanks for your replies.

Vehicles can be loaded onto anything with a load capacity of 2xx, with the caveat being that the xx are directly related to the vehicle's weight (and crew IIRC).

I experimented with helicopters with low "weight" to see if it would be reasonable to create barges with "loaded" helos, but other restrictions in game made this impossible.
