Capturing Enemy Kit for Core
Hi everybody,
reading a thread on the WinSPMBT board I had this idea: It would be neat if you could use kit abandoned by the enemy in the next battle (so it could be checked for booby traps, translate some of the written stuff, repaint the outside, put a track back on, train your crews, etc.). It'd be really satisfying if enemy kit which gave me lots of trouble ended up in my core force. :D To be clear: I am not proposing the use of abandoned kit in the same battle or the use of small arms, just crewed weapons/vehicles in the next battle. Foreign equipment has been used by many, if not all, armies, e.g. Wehrmacht, Red Army, U.S. Army, ... http://lonesentry.com/articles/ordnance/index.html Quote: "Ordnance Technical Intelligence men reconditioning captured German 105-mm howitzers. Over 25,000 German shells were fired back at the enemy with captured guns of this type during initial operations against the Siegfried Line." http://lonesentry.com/articles/forei...ons/index.html Quote: "Any foreign weapon may be useful to troops seeking to better their tactical position, but weapons in which an enemy has a qualitative lead are especially valuable. Above is seen a common or garden variety of old German 88 being used by U.S. troops; below, a German 170-mm gun used by the British." This is a picture of a captured TigerII used by the U.S. Army. http://www.worldwar2aces.com/kingtiger05.jpg But it is impossible to put all captured equipment in the OOBs. I think the unit stats are written into the save files and read from the save files instead of the data base (the game has to keep track of those knocked out weapons and other damage). Please correct me if I'm wrong (highly possible) and if I'm wrong don't bother to keep reading. ;) So, would it be possible to swap units while saving the game? For example, at the end of the battle there is an abandoned 88 (not destroyed). The player could get the option to swap one of his artillery pieces (not any unit, should be same class/type) for that 88. Then instead of saving the stats of a, say, 57mm AT-gun (unit-class, crew, size, ...) just put in the stats of the 88. Of course there should be a big drop in experience of the crew. I guess this is not possible but I can dream until someone tells me the idea is stupid... |
Re: Capturing Enemy Kit for Core
If you want to do that then set up a scenario.
It is completely impossible for a campaign core. Andy |
Re: Capturing Enemy Kit for Core
A question:
Your 57mm AT-gun will have full ammo load before next battle. How about the 88? I think captured weapons need to be carefully reconditioned to be useful. And that is not for a company or battalion to do. Best Regards Ironfist |

Re: Capturing Enemy Kit for Core
In general, using captured equipment is frowned upon because, well it looks and sounds like an enemy unit. It's more of a problem with tanks and vehicles than guns. No matter how you paint it, on a dark night, someone will think it belongs to the enemy and pop it. Even worse, you know there are captured enemy tanks in your company, battalion, regiment or what have you and non-captured ones show up and you don't shoot at them...well, you can figure that one out.
It's not as big a problem after the nation the equipment belonged to drops out of the war. The Germans used lots of tanks captured from the French. |

And to have it in the campaign core is/was the point of my "brilliant";) idea. |
