Help with Textures
Ok so I've designed some models in Wings and used the UVmapper.....however I cant figure out how the heck to texture the model from there?
I know you have to open the texture file in photoshop and edit it there but how do you get the texture BACK on the model you just made? Also quick question for folks with photoshop CS2, how do you open one image and copy paste it inside another when using the texture feature? I cant figure out how to get the freaking thing to import an image into a currently open image and I've honestly forgotten how to make a texture inside photoshop which sucks since I've lost the book |
Re: Help with Textures
I know CS2 fairly well, but not all of it (obviously; who the hell does). I think what you're trying to do is paste part of one image into another .psd you have going? Is that correct?
FYI: With the billions of tutorials on the internet, and the excellent Help Files of CS2, you don't really need the book. ;) |

Now the other problem is where is the texture renderer that will allow me to upload my .X model and apply the texture that I made to it? |
Re: Help with Textures
In Wings, you want to "make external", not "export", your texture - that will make the texture in Wings just a reference to the external bitmap, instead of storing it all inside your wings file and bloating that up like all get-out. If you already exported, no worries, just rename your existing texture bitmap, "make external" onto the original name, and copy the renamed original back over the newly external texture! :D
By the way, you might be interested in Wings' capability of "baking" OpenGL shaders into textures... it requires a bit of programming (to create the shaders and link them into Wings), but the results are pretty spiffy! :D Wings comes with a couple of shaders already created and linked ("wood" and "noise") as samples - take a look at those; you might also want the "edge filter" plugin I created which gets rid of the jagged edges on baked textures! :D Can't remember the URL where it's at right now but I also have it on my machine so I can post it on my site now that I got that working if you want! ;) Maybe I should work on a program to create the "linking" code for a shader automatically... that would be really handy ;) I do wish though that you could save shader parameters in Wings somehow... I'll have to see if there's a plugin for that, and maybe create one if there isn't, if I can remember enough Erlang to do that! :P |
