Dutch CV90s

The CV90 started to enter service with the Royal Netherlands Army a few days ago. I have looked for the CV90 in obat28 and could not find it. Apologies if I missed it somehow. I only discovered ‘Mobhack’ the other day.

Here is the official press release - which provides information about the Dutch version of the CV90:

“Dutch State Secretary Jack de Vries was visibly impressed by the brand-new CV90 during the test ride he was given at the Bernhard barracks in Amersfoort. The event marked the official service introduction of the new infantry fighting vehicle in the Dutch Army. After the successful completion of the trials phase, the Director of Defence Material Organisation (DMO), Lex Hendrichs, this morning handed over the first five vehicles to the deputy commander of the Land Forces, Major General Marcel van den Broek.

The CV90, together with the Fennek reconnaissance vehicle and the Boxer heavy wheeled armoured vehicle, will ultimately replace all of the “good old” YPR armoured transport vehicles, which must be retired after dozens of years of faithful service.
CV90 has much increased firepower, a top speed of 70 km/h, a radius of action of 600 kilometres and offers much improved protection for its occupants. The CV90 can carry 10 people, including three crew and seven fully-equipped infantrymen.

The Ministry of Defence has chosen to procure a combination of modern vehicles to ensure that the Royal Netherlands Army is optimally equipped for the full spectrum of future missions, ranging from humanitarian aid missions to participation in a large-scale conflict. Thanks to its heavy weapons and armour, the CV90 can operate in the heaviest operational conditions.

The Netherlands have opted to arm their CV90s with the Bushmaster III, a 35mm rapid-fire gun which can disable targets at ranges of up to two kilometres. Furthermore, the vehicle has a 7.62mm machine-gun and 10 launchers for smoke and shrapnel grenades. With minor modifications, the turret can be equipped with a 50mm gun. The crew is protected against hostile fire by effective armour protection, and the vehicle is fitted with laser warning receivers.

The Ministry of Defence will procure 192 CV90s, including those intended for training. Earlier versions of CV90 are already in operation with the armed forces of Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Switzerland.”

Note: I think the CV90 is designated CV9035NL by the Netherlands.

Re: Dutch CV90s

This looks like another case of an OOB designer guessing wrong about a procurment based on three or four or five year old info

Note the "Pizarro NL" in slot 114. I don't find anything indicating that will be bought by the Dutch so it looks like the CV90 won that competition instead. That unit's been in the Netherlands OOB since at least the V2 supp of the DOS version in 2003

Re: Dutch CV90s

It's been delivered to units last week so they can start training on it. Expected date when it will effectively start replacing the YPR's is early 2010. I expect the YPR's to stay in service alongside the CV90 for quite some time after that until all units have been trained on the new vehicle.

Re: Dutch CV90s

When you say "It's been delivered" right after I mention the Pizzaro I have to wonder but I assume you are speaking of the CV90 and only the CV90??

Re: Dutch CV90s

Yes, only the CV90. Sorry about that confusion. No pizarro's for the dutch.
