Capture Ships

Getting mad ...

In a single player game I want to capture an enemy MineSweeper in strategic combat.

But that does not function.
I ve tried every strategy but everytime I ve got the same result: the mine sweeper will sit down in one corner and my capture fleet in an other corner or the sweeper was blown away.

My boarding ships all have ShieldDepleters.

I ve tried:
- only boarding ships = see above
- boarding ships + 1 LC = sweeper destroyed (option used: damage until no wepons!)
Boarding ships start to move toward sweeper after shields are down but come too late.
:
Also tried to use different target options (shoot only at ships with/without weapons and so on)...

If I use the same fleet to capture an armed Dreadnought all is ok.

What I m doing wrong?

I know, it's so obvious I know it's pointless to ask, but I'll ask anyway.

Is there an SSD involved?

hmmmm....this is worth a try, if you are using a 'fleet' the modify the orders so that ALL ships break formation, that way they will follow their own orders instead of the fleet firing orders...might work...(make sure you are using the 'capture enemy ship' strategy..)

I used to have some success with arming ships with trac beams and boarding parties/shield depleters....(components almost 'seem' to have to be in a certain order...try the weapons, then the trac beams, then the boarding component in the ship, maybe that matters for 'what action follows what'.)

Or maybe I am thinking way too hard again....(not the first time.... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif)

Sorry, but what is SSD?

Re: Capture Ships

SSD = self destruct device. Board a ship with one of these, and you both go *poof*

Amasing.

I ve tried all you told, changing fleet tactics .. only send in one boarding ship .. etc. - nothing.
But giving the boarding ships some other offense weapons (additional to the SDs) the tactic works well. Don t understand that.

And what I also don t understand is: I thought giving a ship/fleet the order to stop firing when there are no weapons left they will do so and do not blow away the ship, but in the example they do it.

I know (and understand) that this can happen when the attakcing ships uses missiles but my ship only has beam waepons...

oh, ah, narf.

Re: Capture Ships

If your ships don't already have it you might try giving them some simple weapon like a DUC I so that the computer sends them into shoot and then when the enemy is ready to be boarded your ships are right there to do it while the DUC's won't be strong enough to destroy the ship even if they do hit.

Not sure if the computer considers Shield Depleters a weapon to be used on ships if its the only one and the enemy has no weapons or something.
*BREAK* That is what I was going to say... but I just tried all that on the simulator and none of it worked.
I don't know what is going on. I have never used boarding myself in strategic... maybe it doesn't work?

Anyone know?

ok... my suggestion which was made after you fixed it yourself works for you but not for me... weird. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Re: Capture Ships

[insert twilight zone music]

Got a similar problem with the Fire on the Suns battle engine that I wrote, boarding parties are not considered weapons so some other weapon system needs to be present for the 'AI' to be agressive. Adding a low yield weapon is the best advice that I've heard.
