Mercs

This is going to sound REAL noobish but I can't find the definitive answer anywhere...

When you hire a Merc and he is down to 1 turn left and you want to rehire him...

It says you can pick him up for 1/2 the cost of what everyone else pays. NP there...

Now here is what I am wondering...IF you have a merc that originally cost 150 Gold and now you can get for 75 if you bid 80 gold does your opponent have to bid 156 gold to get him?

What I am trying to say is...will your 75 gold (because he already works for you keep him over another nation bidding 150?

OR, does it just come down to high bid period in MP...

Geez, what an easy question for me to muck it up like this...

Thanks:confused:

I've always thought it meant that the employing nation's bid is multiplied x2.

I think bidding 76 on a 150 for that nation is equivalent to bidding 152, not 151. And so on.

Which is what I think you're asking.

But I have no idea how it adjudicates tie bids...I have the sneaking suspicion Abysia wins...

I have always thought that also...but no one seems to know for sure.

Sometimes it makes a BIG difference (like at the start of a game).

If anyone knows for sure could you let us know Please!!!

With questions like these, it's pretty easy to verify it yourself by starting a testgame with four or more human players, all under your control. Let one hire a merc, then use the others to test any theories.

My guess is the same as voiced before: The one who hired the guys before effectively has his bids doubled in comparison. There is also a nation-specific bonus or malus that might get applied, it's either some percent or half/double the gold again, I don't remember. When there's a tie, then the mercs will either stay with the guy who hired them before, or they'll put themselves up for grabs at the market again, not sure ATM.

pretty sure the doubling is correct.
