Roundhammer

hi all.
just spent an allnighter on the roundhammer campaign.
My core is:
4x patrol with APC
4x snipers
Armd Inf Co. with M10
platoon of M5A1
platoon of M3A3
1 platoon of para troops

Additional support:
1 scout
a B-25 Bomber strike

set-up:
Placed one mech platoon on on the no. side one in the middle (on the road) and one on so side. with the scouts and snipers on the no.and so.
Tanks on the road in the middle.
Para drop to the east behind lines.
1-2 turn
Planned arty strike at suspected enemy positions, scout plane discovered nothing yet, all units moving east except sp-morters.
Para landed with no causalties and now have spotted some AA and trucks.
3-4 turn
First arty stike at my central force not bad lost a man but they are rallying quite well.
Para has taken the so. most bridge and engaged with the AA units dealing some damage to the 20mm and destroyed 2 trucks my scout plane was shot down but discovered 3 APC's and ATG.
The middle force is also engaged now dropped off some inf. took 1 causalty from a MG nest popped some smoke, and brought up 2 stuarts got at them now in retreat.
Manuevering with the grants and 3 stuarts to out-flank by the left.
No. force still moving east no oppsition yet,
So.force now moving ne. to support central force.
5-6 turn
Central force infy. heavily engaged supported by the stuarts(lost 3but got 3 APCs) and my grants moved in to finish the two ATG's in center now blowing some holes in the buildings and MGing the retreating inf.
Paras moving in killed the ATG that knocked out my three stuarts, now killing retreating units the"bastards"
Now my So. force finally reaches the battlefield they have not much to do other than deploy.
The No. force has taken the No. bridge and moving Sw. engaging units already discovered by central force.
I had to call off any morter and the Bomber strike due next turn as i have them encircled now and would do more harm than good.
7th and Last turn
Other than blasting one inf. out of a building and running them down and some routed units no problems
Took the last central flags.
Decisive victory.
I lost only 3 men,but i lost 3 stuarts in one OP turn:hurt:
Thats what you get when you stack them together:doh:
Normandy's next  I'll do some thinking on that one!

Good Luck at Normandy! I'm looking forward to hear about it. I must say that you have some great thumbnails next to your name up top! They look like snap shots. Where'd you get them?

Re: Roundhammer

Taking a look at the beach i'm going to have to assault.
Landing in mud which will take alot of the Heavies out and if they do get on firm ground the center looks like a kill zone for armour.
The south looks a little too inviting as there is a road so probaly another kill zone.
The north is most difficult terrain and would be slow going but think would be the best.
Since i have alot support buys and repair left-overs i'm thinking going for a north landing after bombing the daylights out them and going in with paratroopers.
Any suggestions?

Change the Map! If that's possible. I figure that I wouldn't land my troop in that situation, so it only makes sense to relocate the landing. I'd run a couple of support tanks through the south with some leg infantry just to "keep them honest." Be present so the enemy has to keep forces in place there to keep you from flanking him. This will enable your northern force to avoid being overwhelmed by the enemy in rough terrian. I realize you're playing the AI and you can't psych it out (it's like trying to stare down a LED light), but you can at least devide it's artillary and who knows, maybe the south will slip through.

Thats wimping out you just have to accept the situation & adapt. Even if you lose its how you learn. Fighting on diffrent terrain adds variety. Not sure Andy or Don might chip in but I have found setting to savanha on some maps throws up some horrible muddy terrain to fight across

Gila was the first battle a filler? 7 turns is kinda short.

@Imp
Nope,was a full 12 turn battle.
@Lt.Ketch,
I can't change maps as this is a user designed campaign.
The map size is long and narrow.
And now i wish i bought another Co.of inf before.,instead med.tanks:doh:
