Modding Development Group

We have a lot of really active modders here - but its not real fair to expect JK to support us without recompense.

Perhaps we can get 10-20 people each willing to cough up $100 - $200 dollars, which would allow the Mod Development council to help pay for extensions to dominions.

In return, anyone that wanted to use the extensions might buy it from the MDC, in order to run new nifty mods.

Some of the things that might be funded:

A. Extensions to random events, allowing an outside text list.
B. Extension to mercenaries.
C. Complete set of documentation on item effects.
D. Extensions to game engines (command line options).
E. Items off the modding shortlist.

I think this could be a win win - we have a lot of rabid dominions fans. We have some creative mods - but better documentation and extensions would allow us to write even better mods.

So, someone buys a MDLibrary. He writes a mod using it. Anyone that wants to play the mod, has to pay maybe $5 back to the MDC for the mod library... Once you have such a license you can play any number of MDL mods....

Strong disagree, all things considered.

Forcing people to pay to use mods is something I'd never agree with, and the main idea seems flaky to begin with.

Re: Modding Development Group

I don't think KO and JK are motivated by money, particularly the small amount of money this would represent. And currently we don't have enough people actually playing the mods - I think there are more people making them than playing them even. So restricting that number would be a bad idea.

I like the idea of getting more mod commands etc - but only recently have people really been running into the limit of what we can currently do. I mean it's nice to be able to do more, but you still need to actually make a good mod with those extra features and a lot of the mods that have come out have sort of stalled without getting the needed quality or quantity of work.

The devs have often said they are not motivated by money.
But thanks for the effort to help the community.

Actually Ive often been incredibly surprised that people dont do some research on the matter. The devs have often given hints on motivation. I have given hints on motivation. Looking thru past discussions can make it fairly clear why some apparently good suggestions dont get the priority that some apparently flighty suggestions get. Some people have a tendency to shoot their own suggestions in the foot right from the start. And those same people seem to use the same tactics over and over with the same results.

But hey, thats no longer my department.:lala:
