Stalingrad maps?

Has anyone done any realistic maps of Stalingrad or know of some that could be attached here? I'm interested in getting my hands on some.

There is a Stalingrad map in the game about the 3rd one included here is a military map 1941 at a scale of 1:100,000 thats 1cm = 1km or one square is 2km for quick ref.

Sorry did not realise it would shrink full size map at correct scale in the RAR its a lot bigger

Hey Imp,

Almost didn't reconize you with that cool new avatar.

Until I saw your map I never realized how small the city actually was geographiclly (writing this as an American:)) and yet so much fighting and bloodshed was possible in its compact parameters. I find this quite amazing, I was under the misconception that Stalingrad was a vast urban area, thats why the Germans couldn't take it.

Sincerly,
Andrew

Ramm,
Actually the Russian winter was a logistical nightmare for the Germans. They could NOT keep their forces adequately supplied to take Stalingrad. No matter how good your army is it won't last long without steady supplies...:D

Re: Stalingrad maps?

If you want to do a campaign on the area there are maps showing the routes taken for both the attacks & the attempted withdrawl & Soviet counterstrike so you could do several maps to cover it all. Lots of photos to all available on the web so can get an idea. Photos off the areas Russian Arty was for the counterstrike are amazing only ones I have seen that match are Brits in Korea. All you can see is casings with the odd spot where a gun must have been like 1 foot deep several people must have been involved just moving spent ammo away to allow the guns space to work knackering work I would guess the Brits certainly was they used there whole supply in one battle.
Classic quote if remember Brits reported there position as "a bit sticky" actualy outnumbered over 10-1. Memory not great might have had to stop because the guns were worn out not out of ammo.

Here are a whole series of Stalingrad maps

If you just want small sections of the city then use the map that's in the game and used the CD map editor to cut and paste sections of it

Re: Stalingrad maps?

Thanks for the imput and maps. I've got a great dream of building a campaign for Stalingrad based off of a book I got in Volgagrad that has all of the battle orders from both sides that deals with the battle. (The very first one is Hitler's call for the assult on the southern flank.) It will proabably be a long while before I ever get that far as work and a growing family keep me from brushing up on my Russian enough to get through the book, let alone building the maps. In the mean time, I wanted to see what others had done and where to go from there. For anybody that hasn't been to mordern day Volgagrad, I highly encourage it. It is like waking on sacred ground.

Anyway, enough dreaming for now, back to work. Thanks again.
