Minor Medium Mortar Discrepancy
Don,
Noticed just a small discrepancy with the British medium mortars. unit 67 unit 256 (Long Range) All five major powers have a 'kill' rating of 11, except the British mortar which is only 9. I realise it has a 4/5mm smaller caliber, but the UK bomb weight is significantly greater. Bomb weights Brit 4.5 KG Ger 3.5 KG US 3.1 KG Rus 3.4 KG Jap 3.8 KG source: http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/...try%20Guns.htm I know this is a minor issue, but if you decide you want to change it, hopefully it's relatively easy fix. cheers, Cross |
Re: Minor Medium Mortar Discrepancy
We looked into that and decided that all things considered 11 for all those mortars would be best but while we were looking at that we noticed another "small discrepancy" in the ranges for 3in and the 3in LR.
Stange though it may sound those ranges have been wrong likely right back to the very beginnings of the game.......and nobody noticed until Andy dug into the HEkill issue then I dug up Ian Hoggs data on the two ranges. So, starting next release the stock 3 inch mortar will have a 32 hex range and the LR version introduced mid war will have 56 range ( NOT the 55 and 70 we have now ) and both will be 11 HEK Don |

When you say "mid war" I guess this this means you have moved the available date for the LR version forward. In SP it's currently available from Jan 44, which does seem a bit tardy. But then the MoD have been known to drag their feet. I read that the barrel/base plate was upgraded by 1942, but I couldn't find a firm source. You may want to check the available date for the 4.2 inch mortar (unit 82). In SP it's currently available from June 41, but I read it was first used at El Alamein (July 1942); though I guess it could have been delivered a little earlier. Cheers, Cross |
Re: Minor Medium Mortar Discrepancy
Right now the earliest the LR version enters service is 12/43 with commando forces. Until I find solid info ( ie NOT Wikipedia ) that stays as is.
As for the 4.2 I will look into it. What I find so far is ......quote..... "The 4.2" Mortar entered production at the end of 1941" and that there were 1,034 produced in 1942 so yes, 6/41 looks to be too early but July 42 seems a bit too late but it's now on the list EDIT.. found a good source that mentions El Alamein as the first use so 7/42 is it now Don |
