The Old World
1 Attachment(s)
This is a scenario map for Dominions 3, based on a satellite map of
Europe and the adjacent areas of Asia and North Africa. It is inspired by a similar map called `The old world' in Dominions 1, which was absent (so far) in Dominions 2/3. The scenario is playable in all 3 eras, and it uses only nations which `fit' into Europe (thus, e.g., no Mictlan). There a two versions of the scenario (which use the same .tga file): (A) Theoldworld_vanilla.map, This is the standard version. (B) Theoldworld_dracula.map, This requires the Dracula mod (for the respective era), which adds an extra nation of vampires. The map is wrap-around for east-west, but not for north-south (for balance reasons). Now updated to the latest version 1.2. If in doubt, use the standard Vanilla-version. If you want to use the Dracula-version, then read the documentation README.txt first! |
Re: The Old World
I loved that dom-I map and am grateful for your version.

Re: The Old World
Why did you choose to have this wrap east/west? The graphic doesn't really fit a wrap.
|
Re: The Old World
I do agree this map graphics doesn't fit with wraparound.
Apart from that, you can select nations that do crash the game on startup, like Hinnom. Would be easier on the player not to be able to select them. Having to report to the readme while creating a game is rather tedious. |
Re: The Old World
The map is wrap-around for game balance reasons. Of course, it is
not realistic to get from the Ural to the Atlantic, but otherwise some players would have unfair advantages. Hinnom is normally enabled in the early era in this scenario, so it should not crash the game. (Of course, there can be at most one Hinnom player, because of the fixed starting location.) There was a bug in the vanilla version, which wrongly enabled nation 77. This is now fixed in the new version 1.1. |
Re: The Old World
Anyway, I had several crashes trying to start test games with two factions.

Re: The Old World
This scenario map does NOT crash the game, provided that it is used
properly. Your problem, most likely, is that you used the Dracula-version of the scenario, either without the required mod, or without enabling the Dracula nation in the game. If you use the Dracula-version then you need to enable the Dracula-mod for the respective era, and you MUST enable the Dracula-nation in the game (i.e., there must be a player for this nation). If you DON'T want the Dracula-nation, then just use the standard Vanilla-version of the scenario map (i.e., Theoldworld_vanilla.map). The documentation for the latest version 1.2 now explains this point more clearly. |
