Bug - red screen
I use Windows 2000 Server and Dom3 v3.10 (same behavior up to 3.23b). When hosting, when a client joins, it connects fine but the client screen turns red, I can't see anything; but when moving the mouse and clicking at random, I discover it works normally in the background, it is just a display glitch. However, I can't fix it, I tried to play with the command line switch to vary the display setting, but to no success.
Version 3.08 doesn't have this problem, however, 3.08 features too many bugs and a lack of mod acceptance, barely playable. The problem is the same on Vista. What could I do, short of buying a Mac or adding a Linux server? thank you tsar |

This is not a known bug, and most likely caused by your machine:
Are you running the client on the same machine as the host (server instance of Dom3)? Does the host window work ok when the client window screws up? Which graphics card is used in that machine? Which of the various command line options did you try? (Tto get the full list, type dom3.exe -help on the command line while in the dominions3 directory. Dominions will write its options to "stdout.txt") Start both running server and client in windowed mode, them dump down the graphic settings. Please try running the client with the -ddddd debug switch, then report back and attach the log file! |

I host on windows 2000 server, with 256MB NVIDIA 6800 GS video card.
I also run client on same computer. With 3.08, or earlier, no problem of display while connecting. With 3.10 and higher, when client connects, a completely red screen prevents any further play. However, in the red screen, clicking blindly is actually having normal effect because it can be seen when switching to the server dom3 screen, that is activating the Lanka line stamped "human controlled". When a second computer running Vista is trying to connect as a client to dom3 server, red screen. With 3.08, or earlier, no display trouble while connecting. A third computer running Windows 2000 Server, with ATI video card, also gets a red screen when connecting as a client. With 3.08 or earlier, no display trouble while connecting. I played with most video options, the only change i could see is: When I run "dom3.exe -u --bitplanes 8", it gives a gray screen When I run "dom3.exe -u --bitplanes 9" (or higher), it gives a red screen ---------------- I'd really like some help since 3.23b is much better than 3.08. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? My friend seems to be getting it as well, we tried changing display settings but nothing changed. SP works fine, its just when connecting to a multiplayer game.

Right up until you run into it again.
That's the copy protection you're seeing, and it only happens if you use a pirated key, so I suggest your friend get a legitimate copy. The game is available on GamersGate and Desura. |
