Modding auto berserk?

Hello, I've searched around here, and looked at the modding wishlist and the modding manual, but I can't find anything about a command to make the unit automatically berserk at the start of a battle. Can anyone help me?

You can do it with a commander. See Ogre Kingdoms mod - Mawpit and Skrag the Slaughterer.

There's no mod command for it specifically. Setting morale to 99 doesn't work before someone suggests that. You have to find a workaround.

With troops, I can't think of a clean workaround. Possibly aoe 1 poison cloud + no poison res + berserk + second form without poison cloud.

Thanks Sombre; yes, for a commander, using the #onebattlespell works, but I suppose it won't work with normal units? Or maybe would it be possible to copy a magic item that grants autoberserk, change its stats and give it as standard equipment?

And on a side note, shouldn't this request be added to the wishlist?:D

Onebattlespell doesn't work with units. If you copystats the communicant guy from ma pythium you can get units to benefit from a communion master buff - in this way you could berserk all your units by using that commander. But that's far from clean.

Magic items don't work that way.

Unless another experienced modder can think of something, it can't be done.

Morale 99 = autoberserk at battle start would be good on the wishlist yeah.

I have an idea. It's not clean, but should work up to a point. Don't make the units summonable or recruitable, expect as commanders. Then have that unit have a custom onebattlespell.

This custom onebattlespell will summon, say 8 of these guys and nextspell a berserking spell with nice AoE that will cover most squares around the unit, berserking him and the troops he just summoned. Because of the berserk, this solution will circumvent the normal obstacles associated with autosummoning commanders, since it will be very hard to protect the summoning commanders from harm and reuse their troops from battle to battle (since the commander will automatically join the fray).

However, this will mean that these commanders can berserk other units around them. (if the troops have a special tag, like undead, sacred, demon or magic being, you can specify the berserk spell to only target them).

If you need help getting started, Bretonnia mod takes heavy use of the commander battle summoning, you can start up the code from there. If you run up into any trouble, I can provide assistance.

See, that's the sort of workaround you have to get used to in modding. Sometimes you can't get mechanically what you're after, but the flavour can be spot on.
