Custom battlemaps: Problems & Potential
I made a little video showing some of the potential for custom battlemaps.
What the video doesn't show is a major problem. If you set a province to use a custom battlemap, it works great until you place a fortress there as well. The custom map overrides the fortress map and when siege battles take place, they occur on the custom map. I realize that this is a known issue/feature: -mapedit.pdf- 3.15 #batmap “<battlemap.d3m>” Sets the battleground that fights take place in for the current province. You can use the special name 'empty' for no battleground, useful for battles in space perhaps. This will affect fights both outside and inside castles. ...but JK, how 'bout some more love for the map editors. :angel (I considered just sending an email, but I know the devs are focusing on their new project so posting here in case I can just catch them in the dominions mood and browsing. :) ) |

Oooh, looks great! :)

Re: Custom battlemaps: Problems & Potential
IF that were addressed, how would you prefer that it be resolved?
Im not sure if the castles are overlaid on the other battlemaps or not. So if it came down to a choice do you feel that the battlemap should win in a conflict or the castle map? I see pros/cons with both. |
Re: Custom battlemaps: Problems & Potential
My own preference would be for the presence of a fort to override any custom battlemap when there is a siege battle. As things are, we can't mod the forts anyway, so I see no need in custom fort battlemaps. Even if you wanted to modify the fort map, the initial battle for the province would take place in your custom fort map and then again when you try to storm the fort.
It may be that the structure of the code prevents an easy fix, but I guess there is no harm in asking. :) |
