4 New Yom Kippur Scenarios

1 Attachment(s)
1. Mt Herman 10/6/73
2. Valley of Tears 10/6/73
3. Zrakor, Sinai 10/10/73
4. Soviet relief attempt for the Egyptian Third Army 11/20/73

This Zip file includes for SPMBT scenarios from the Yom Kippur War (two hypothetical and two historical). They will load into Slots 995 through 998 and then you can renumber them as you see fit/need. The Zip file has the path for a standard SPMBT file path. So if you have a standard set up you only need to unzip it to C:/ and the Zip should do the rest (I hope).

OK, I have downloaded all 4. Any recommendations on which one I should try first? ;)

Anyone playing the 1st one "Zrakor, Sinai" in slot 995 might need a heads up as there is a very long pre-scenario artillery barrage.

Then let me warn you about the very long airstrike softening up in the Soviet-IDF scenario. Honestly if you look at the Yom Kippur War artillery and airstrikes played a large role in the fighting.

Played the Valley of Tears scenario...A decent scenario alltogather, although a tad easy for the Israeli side. Might want to consider reducing the ammount of 175mm support for the Israelis otherwise the really do kill around 20%-35% of the Syrian force. I have read Kahalnis Heights of Courage and I dont recall him writing much about having so much arty support, altough I might be wrong. He did give much credit to his FO officer that was killed in the fighting. Still a very nice scenario to play espcially for a ex 77th man like my self.

Also started playing the Soviet Israeli scenario bu honestly it feels a bit like a cavalry charge from the 19th century, not much room for fine tactics there and so much arty I had to leave the PC and go elsewhere for a while every time...A very intresting idea for a scenario, but perhaps somthing slightly more dynamic like a meeting encounter would be better? Still not a bad scenario if your into massive bloodbaths. IU flinch every time a tank lights up so maybe its my issues:)

Nice to see 1973 scenarios keep up the good work.

Re: 4 New Yom Kippur Scenarios

I recall reading somewhere that 75% of Israeli arty missions in 1973 were counter-battery fires.

175mm would likely be reserved for such. A scenario designer should be able to make such batteries CB-only by reserving them at higher command as reserves with an arrival time after the scenario end. Thus the player does not get to sidetrack the GHQ-level counter batteries into on-map supporting fires.

Israel was a bit tank-heavy and infantry and arty light at that point, after the 1967 experience. Therefore, I think that the only direct support fires they would tend to get (unless in an attack or assault) would be the relatively few SP 120mm mortars in each battalion, + maybe a battery off off-map 105/155 under player command.

(After 1973, Israel "rediscovered" infantry and arty once more)

Cheers
Andy

Thanks, didn't know you could reserve Artillery for CB Fire.

What would the Camo Folks like to see done/adjusted to these to have them included in the next update?

You could check them over with ScenHack then apply some of the suggestions made then re-post them and we'll see what the feedback is like.
