Russian Rear Turret MGs

A number of Russian tanks including the BT-5/7, the T-26 and KV series have machine guns in a ball mounting in the rear of the turret. In the existing OOBs some of these units, like the BT's, have this weapon included as a BMG, others, like the KV's, exclude this weapon.

What is the policy with these rear turret machine guns?

Know what you are talking about but would think the game cannot model them weapons can fire in front arc of turret or hull or full 360% thats it. If had a spare weapon slot could make it a range zero only weapon if thats possible so its only use is in assaults as thats what it was for.

You could just make it an extra BMG mounted i a hull slot and just ignore the whole issue of where the MG actually points. Right now some tanks have the weapon acknowledged and some don't. The whole issue of turret rotation and hull pointing is hand waved anyway so might as well add in the gun.

I agree that would be the easiest solution, instead of messing around with firing arcs, and would make them a just a little harder to approach.

No real idea but pretty sure its role was close defence as in stoping soldiers attacking from rear, possibly in the KV its manned (radio operator?) but the others would say its unmanned so you have to spot them & change tasks. So mounting as a BMG means its used all the time while in reality most probably never fired a shot hence they stopped fitting them. So still think range zero or one 360 degree weapon is more correct, by the time you spot them & man it they are on top of you. Could increase Acc or kill very slightly to represent fire at greater range I suppose though it should be less efective probably than German Nat thing

Perhaps rear turret MGs could be represented by reduced range TMGs?

The issue doesn't only apply to the Soviet OOB. Some Jap tanks also had rear turret MGs.
