Problem Viewing Full Screen in XP

I've been playing WINSPMBT for quite a while, and all of a sudden when I am in full screen mode the image is distorted. I tried reinstalling the game but nothing changed. Is there an eay fix for this?

1) What has changed on your machine. Any new programs installed, like the Avast anti-virus as mentioned in the sticky threads in this and the MBT forums on graphics problems?. Changed your video card or updated your drivers?. (On the rare occasions this happens now on my machine with Avast installed, then a simple reboot of the box usually works to reset the palette).

2) You probably mean the psychedelic screens, where windows sometimes messes with the 256 colour palette. Try the Game Guide -> Tuning Your Machine -> Full Screen Mode section.

3) If it persists, then (if you have the CD version) then simply select windowed mode. Set the screen resolution to larger than your screen size (especially with wide screen non standard 4:3 aspect ratio monitors), and it will use the screen size less the windows task bar. Ensure you are not using the "auto-hide" feature!. Then tune your mouse scroll sensitivity zone for the size of the task bar, if you have problems with the mouse scroll at the bottom of the screen.

If you have any media players, turn them off before you start the game. Same for web browsers with pages that have flash or other plug ins that play video.

You've changed something on your computer otherwise it wouldn't just start doing this all on it's own. Reinstalling the game proved it wasn't directly game related so you'll need to figure out what changed between the time this didn't happen and when it did.

One solution may be to simply switch to windowed mode. I never run full screen, always windowed mode right from the very start.

We included both modes because at the time with all the different OS and computer set ups this offered the best way to ensure virtually everyone would find one mode to suit them best. Unfortunately what has happened is " full screen" is being treated as the primary way to play the game and that was never the intent when we set up both modes. If one mode works better on your machine than the other then that's the mode you should be using for your machine. Full screen is NOT the mode players should be using if they develop problems like this

The only thing I don't like about Windowed mode is it's screen scrolling. I used to scroll the screen using mouse, not keyboard (and I believe most people too). In Windowed mode, I should care much about the cursor position when at the edge of the game screen in order to scroll smoothly. So I think full screen is the more loved one.

yeah, plus for me, I prefer for the game I play to have my full attention than to have other things going on on the sides of the game, more for the immersion factor than anything else.

Only if the screen scrolling problem fixed I would choose Windowed problem, since it allows me to go into some sort of "tactical disposition" drawing programs, and other useful stuffs out there to enhance my current game experience (WWII military encyclopedia for example)

Well if the guy has to choose between windowed mode and no mode...

but I am willing to bet that the problem lies with something other that the game.

take a few minutes to set it up in game options, cant remember what its called but obvious edge sensitivity or something. Might take a couple of goes to get right but its sorted then.

Please read:

Game Guide -> Tuning Your Machine -> Map Scroll Sensitivity Zone
and just after that:
Game Guide -> Tuning Your Machine -> Scroll Speed

And possibly the last paragraph in the section may apply, ie about how not to trigger an unintended scroll.

(Also see Game Guide -> Running WinSPMBT(WinSPWW2) -> Game Options Tab 2 (misc) for a picture of the relevant game Options screen)
