Ministers Working Without Permission?
Something strange happened in a PBW game v1.49. I loaded up my new turn, and noticed a lot of reports of sats being build. Looked like 20-30. I hve no memory of putting them down for build, but they were my designs. I figured the AI would have made his own. Then I noticed some ships seemed to be sitting in the middle of space with no orders. This being a telltale sign that the AI has been working, I was suspicious.
However, I knew I had not missed the previous turn. I went back to the log and there was my upload for the Last turn. I figured I was just going nuts. I went back to the game and under research, there was all these strange technologies that I know I did not put down, chief among them Base Construction, which I never use and the AI seems to like a lot. I checked the ministers, none of them are on, and I would never use them anyway. Has anyone seen anything like this in their own games? I am using 1.49 with no mods. Thanks! Edit: I checked Intel projects, and there were a lot of worthless ones in the queue, ,also. Edit2: Alright, it must be because the host did not upgrade the game to 1.49 as stated. So I presume my turn file was rejected. Still, though, why wouldn't the AI obsolete all my ships as usual? [This message has been edited by Aristoi (edited 27 October 2001).] |
Re: Ministers Working Without Permission?
Yes, I have seen that also. And I believe you are correct. If you upgraded to 1.49 and the PBW game is still on 1.41 your orders will not be carried out ( at least that is what I assume).

Happened to me too.

(I know this from few tests that I made some patches ago. It might be different with current patch.) |

Re: Ministers Working Without Permission?
Well this explains a lot. Now I know why my orders were not carried out in the Last turn. Do you want to start the game over?

Re: Ministers Working Without Permission?
I've just had 2 players in my PBW game tell me that their turns were run by the AI. They are both patched and they did upload their turns.
It could be something like the wrong turn year, but 2 in one year seems unlikely. Has anyone else seen this AI problem with a properly patched Version? |
Re: Ministers Working Without Permission?
I noticed this problem yesterday. Odd research projects, ships returning to refule when I know I didn't want them too, colony ships bypassing going to differnt planets.
The person that started the game said he was upgrading to the newest Version, so I did as well. I guess that the PBW server didn't though. |
Re: Ministers Working Without Permission?
We have received several reports of AI taking turns for players in games being changed over from 1.41 to 1.49. In every case that we have looked at it's one of two problems.
1. The player upgraded to 1.49 before the game was upgraded. Since the game was still on 1.41 it could not process a 1.49 turn and therefore the AI ran the turn. or 2. The player added a seperate install for 1.49 so they could play 1.41 games and 1.49 games. When it came time to upload the turn, they didn't browse to the right folder and uploaded the Last 1.41 turn instead of the latest 1.49 turn. Since the filename is the same, PBW will take the turn just fine, but will not be able to process it because it's the wrong game turn of course. #2 is a very easy mistake. I've even done it in one game. One player did this for 3 turns in a row before he realized his mistake. The easiest way to prevent #2 is to delete all the game files from the 1.41 savegame folder for any game that has been upgraded. I am not saying it's impossible that anything else can cause this problem. But in every case we have actually checked it out, it was one of these two things. Geoschmo PBW Admin Team |
